Blogging?

Decided during my self-hosting journey to make a blog project and begin writing several thoughts down, mostly about stuff that interests me like data science, AI (I know its not cool to say that but I was on that train like 6 years ago) and software projects.

If you want to know me, an interesting fact is that I enjoy reverse engineering but am not good at it and thus made a ghidra plugin to make it easier to do but not automated. My Ghidra plugin has a little popup windows where you can ask questions about code and it clearly states where what belongs where and does a good job at explaining stuff with context. Theres no RAG and no document retrival system, though you can attach reference PDFs for your own pleasure. You can also reference code similar to VScode's LLM programming assistant where you can highlight listing window or decompilation window data and it gets contextual information around the cursor and from lines highlighted near. This doesnt eliminate the magic of finding out something from lines of decompiled C code (i know its not actually C) but also makes it so you don't need to be a 10 year veteran of the SRE. This is very much my approach where I enjoy certain aspects of the technical work but am also realistic about my time and want to bring out the enjoyable parts and solve the less appealing parts.

Why blogging?

Mainly because I want to have some evidence of technical development throughout my career that isnt tied directly to my job, my linked in or github. You'll also notice that im somewhat not the best prose writer. I try my hardest to eliminate passive speech from my text but I write exactly how I speak. To improve this I want to atleast write one of these posts a month. Not that many really, but 12 blogs per year is 12 more than 0 which works for me. If I enjoy it and start doing it more often I imagine Ill exceed my own expectations.

I also see alot of successful people doing blogs and it makes me think that if I just replicate the notion, ill be successful too. I think I am somewhat successful already with 2 – 3 years down the line and leading a career where I can make a difference. I just want to have a mark too I guess.

Really?

Yes, writing this also is quite cathartic, its almost like a dialogue with myself that allows me to write out and flesh out the thoughts I have. Obviously its alot more filtered down than pure head noise, but it will contain character of myself and be engaging to those who are interested in myself.

Hopefully if this is your first impression of me then its a positive one :).
